Vanadium is a key constituent in the formation of chlorophyll found in zooxanthellae, rounding out the trace-metal trio (with iron and manganese) that photosynthesis depends on.
Macroalgae & nutrient export
Vanadium also aids macroalgae growth, which naturally reduces unwanted nutrients in the aquarium while providing oxygen, expelling carbon dioxide, and improving pH stability.
Photosynthetic corals & refugiums
Dense zooxanthellae populations in many LPS and SPS species lean on vanadium alongside iron and manganese for the same photosynthetic pathway.
