Chlorophyll's key ingredient
Iron is a key constituent in the formation of chlorophyll found in zooxanthellae — the symbiotic algae living in coral tissue that power photosynthesis.
Macroalgae & nutrient export
Iron also aids macroalgae growth, which naturally reduces unwanted nutrients in the aquarium while providing oxygen, expelling carbon dioxide, and improving pH stability.
Photosynthetic corals & refugiums
Corals carrying dense zooxanthellae populations — many LPS and SPS species — lean on iron most directly, as do refugium and macroalgae-based nutrient export setups.
