WHY IT MATTERS

Built into the skeleton itself

Boron is present in coral skeleton, contributing directly to strong coral skeleton formation by promoting calcification and the production of durable aragonite instead of brittle calcite.

THE PROCESS

A structural, not metabolic, role

Unlike the transition metals, boron's job is largely structural — it becomes part of the physical skeleton matrix as corals calcify, rather than acting as an enzyme cofactor.

Skeleton-building stony corals
