ICP testing is a laboratory analysis method that measures a wide range of trace and major elements in a water sample with high precision. It's commonly used by reef keepers to get a comprehensive snapshot of overall water chemistry.

ICP Testing

ICP testing, short for inductively coupled plasma testing, is a laboratory analysis method capable of measuring dozens of trace and major elements in a single water sample with a level of precision far beyond what typical hobbyist test kits can achieve. Reef keepers send a water sample to a specialized lab, which uses ICP-OES or similar technology to generate a detailed report covering everything from calcium and magnesium to rarely tested trace elements like vanadium or molybdenum.

Because ICP testing covers such a broad range of parameters at once, it’s become a popular way to get a comprehensive baseline of water chemistry, catch developing deficiencies or excesses, and cross-check the accuracy of routine hobbyist test kits.
