Without curing, this decaying material can trigger a significant ammonia spike and a period of poor water quality once introduced into an established tank.

While dry rock generally skips this step since it starts without living organisms, rock or sand sourced from an existing reef system typically benefits from curing before it’s added anywhere near established livestock.
