Algae Control & Nutrient Removal
Once you have chosen your environment from our salts in Step 1 Environmental Salts™ it is time to remove the nutrients which cause unwanted algae to grow; in turn helping to give your aquarium a fresh, clean look.
Algae nutrients include ammonia/ammonium, nitrate, phosphate as well as decaying organic material.
Removing them are easy, simply add the following products based on nutrient levels within your aquarium.
Bio-Active Carbon™
Palletized Activated Carbon has an immense mechanical strength designed to withstand the high-water pressures present within canister filters. Palletized Activated Carbon also has improved hydrodynamics due to its larger size. The larger size decreases compression; allowing water to pass through with relative ease. Palletized Activated Carbon will remove organic waste, toxins, phenols (color), odor, heavy metals, chlorine & chloramine without leaching phosphate, affecting pH or releasing the molecules it has adsorbed.
Phosphate Remover™
Phosphate Remover is designed to eliminate both ionic & chemically bound phosphate in marine/reef aquariums. Phosphate exists as ionic and chemically bound by calcium, this causes fluctuations of calcium, stunted coral growth rates as well as the false reading of low phosphate due to the inability for test kits to be able to test for bound phosphate. Media & carbon sources remove the ionic phosphate but take long to remove the bound phosphate due to its high stability. Our phosphate remover will precipitate out both ionic and chemically bound phosphate and place it in existing filter wool/socks.
High Range Nitrate Remover™
HR Nitrate Remover™ is designed for aquariums that have higher than 15ppm nitrate. It is formulated specifically to reduce high nitrate within marine/reef environments and works by providing bioavailable carbon sources to denitrifying bacteria present in media, deep sand beds & inner pores of live rock. The bacteria oxidize the carbon into carbon dioxide while reducing nitrate to chemically inert nitrogen gas. If you are experiencing nitrate 15ppm or lower, we recommend using our LR Nitrate Remover™.
Low Range Nitrate Remover™
LR Nitrate Remover™ is designed for aquariums that have 15ppm or lower nitrate. It is formulated specifically to reduce nitrate without promoting the nuisance bio-bacteria slime within marine/reef environments and works by providing bio-available carbon sources to denitrifying bacteria present in media, deep sand beds & inner pores of live rock. The bacteria oxidize the carbon into carbon dioxide while reducing nitrate to chemically inert nitrogen gas. If you are experiencing nitrate levels higher than 15ppm, we recommend using our HR Nitrate Remover™ then making the switch to LR Nitrate Remover™ once nitrate becomes 15ppm or lower.
